In addition to financial planning for his clients, Ty’s role as a Principal at Arbor Capital means he serves as lead on the firm’s fixed income strategies and as lead advisor for ERISA plan efforts. He also uses his 28 years of planning, trading, and investment experience to mentor and support other members of the Arbor team. He is one of the chief architects of Arbor Capital’s extraordinary growth over the past eight years, helping the team stay in front of a rapidly changing industry. His hope is to continue to build the firm into an ever-growing, adapting, and forward-thinking firm.
Ty earned his B.B.A. in Business from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and began his career at Morgan Stanley. He had active management duties and received extensive capital markets training there, and he had access to all facets of the firm from initial public offerings, to hedging and risk management techniques. Ty also has extensive experience with asset allocation and portfolio management concepts and techniques. He was one of Morgan Stanley’s advisors nationwide before seeking a path towards independence.
Ty was awarded the Top 40 under 40 Award by the Alaska Journal of Commerce. He has competed in two US men’s curling national championships in 1997 and 1998, and in the Olympic trials in 1998. Ty has served as chair of the Municipal Investment Advisory Committee at the pleasure of the Anchorage Mayor and serves on the board of directors for the Anchorage Curling Foundation, CurlAK, the Northwest District of the LCMS, and his local church.
He is co-founder of Twister Creek LLC, which owns Denali Brewing Company, Denali Spirits, Alaska Meadery, and Alaska Ciderworks. He is an internationally certified beer judge through the BJCP. (And, if you want to go way back, he was the 1985 Minnesota state saddle bronc champion!)
Ty has been married to third-generation Fairbanksan Lori for over 30 years, and they have four grown children. Ty and Lori enjoy spending time at their cabin in Talkeetna, all things outdoors Alaska, travel, volunteer work, hosting dinners for family and friends, and being active in the communities they serve.
